LinkedIn-Social Network you Cannot Live Without

LinkedIn is often overlooked in the world of social media, but I have to agree with Jennifer Laycock – LinkedIn is much more than just another place to “add your friends.” For job hunters and sales people with specfic targets, it’s actually one of the world’s best networking tools.

Linked-in is not overlooked by my company who have now decided that rules regarding employees not posting on forums as identifiable employees of our company also now apply to Linked-in. There is a security aspect should anyone want to target our employees for bad reasons but this is also restricting the potential for the employees to be head hunted – a good thing for our company but not for the individual. Following an in depth discussion with my line management I have now removed all reference to my current employer from my Linked-in profile. However looking at my contacts will give anyone a very good idea of who my employer actually is. It’s a minefield.

Companies foolishly think they can control what happens on the net, with their brand, and their employees. But they can’t, it’s like preventing people from crossing the border between the US and Mexico. There is just too much territory.
