Peggy,
It is important to remember to balance as much as you can in social media and measure. You need to be focusing on strategy and where you want to drive all the traffic you are going to be generating. Here is a link to the post that Lorraine and I tag teamed on http://kylelacy.com/adjustment-to-4-touchpoints-model-of-social-media/

Thanks for the nod Lorraine.

Good question Peggy, it is easy t get overloaded. Each network plays a different role, and you need to chose the ones which best fit your need at an given time.

For me: LinkedIn is simply an extension of my address book. I use it to make connections between people, but not for networking. I rarely answer questions or get engaged in dialogues.

SmallerIndiana is my community connection. It is not a business networking site. Though many people are trying to turn it into one.

Twitter is my news source, it is where i connect with people real time. It is great when you are at conferences or events being able to post a twitter, and connect with other Tweets. I am amazed at how interesting conversations can be 140 characters at a time.

FriendFeed is an agregator, which pulls my feeds from everywhere. I don't use the conversation piece of it as much. I prefer the interface on Twitter, but it does much the same things.

Plaxo and Facebook, I maintain profiles, and accept connection requests, but rarely use the tools.

Just now looking into Twitter. How many networking websites is considered too many? Getting confused with so many available and how they compare. Time is certainly a consideration here. Suggestions?
