Networking is For Everyone!

I spent 20 years in corporate gigs.  While there, I built a network inside my company and the industry, but didn’t make time for other networking events.  That was a huge mistake!  When I was ready to make a job change, or ultimately start my own business, I did not have the resources and connections to make the transition smoothly. I wish I had known then what I know now about the importance of networking at every stage of your career.  Was reminded of this fact when I read this great post from the Harvard Business Review! In the article, the author suggests: 1) Figure out who should...

Not All Customers Are Good Customers

I always enjoy reading Seth Godin’s blog.  Sometimes funny, sometimes, serious, and frequently thought provoking.  I recently re-read one of his  posts entitled Be Careful Who You Work For .  The post really hit home when he said: How many job offers with good pay have you turned down in your lifetime? Color Matters

I am taking an art class this summer.  I don’t really have much talent, but it is fun, relaxing, and I am learning things which are valuable in other parts of my life.  For example Color.  We are exploring color values, and I have really seen the effect strong contrasting colors can have on the overall impact of a painting.  These same values also effect the visual impact of signs, brochures and websites.  Some color combinations are more vibrant, more interesting, and more readable. It is Half Time – Are You Ready for the 2nd Half?

Have you ever noticed most sports get more interesting after the second half?  Basketball, football, soccer, the teams go into the locker room, and the great ones seem to come out more focused, ready to win after half time! Why? Because they use the time between the halves  to assess their game, their competitors, and the conditions. They ask three important questions. What is working? What isn’t working? What needs to change? Although there is only a few minuts between the halves, they use that time to adjust their strategy and return to the field ready to win.   At that point,...

Moving on With Style – Doug Karr Launches DK Media

There are no rule books on how to leave a job; no clear guidelines on how to end a business relationship with class and style.  But if someone wanted to write one, they should use the blog post by Doug Karr, as an example.   While he is leaving his position at Compendium, it is clear he leaves on great turns terms, (it would be great if I could type) with their best wishes as he starts his new venture. And while he will be spending less time focused on Compendium ( they will till be a client of his) he will have much more time to work on other projects – which is good news for the...
