Will BP Recover Their Brand After the Clean Up?

In 1989, The Exxon Valdez oil spill occurred in Prince William Sound.  An estimated  10.8 million  gallons of oil spilled into the surrounding waters. Far from the largest spill, it created public outrage as the media showed images  salmon, sea otters, seals and seabirds covered in oil.   It was years before Exxon fully emerged from under the negative public relations created by the spill. As I read the ongoing reports of the BP oil spill, which is now climbing the list toward the largest oil spill ever, and I watch the conversations in the news, and in social media, I wonder how...

A Tale of Two Websites

We recently had an interesting challenge: to design “sister sites” for two related but separate companies: Polaris Property Management and a blog for Polaris Real Estate. For Polaris Property Management, it was a redesign of their existing site, but the blog is meant to compliment danbaldini.com, the existing site for Polaris Real Estate. At first glance, the pages don’t look so different. They share a similar simple style, and clean style, along with Taylor’s great banner artwork. However, the content and function of the sites are very different. The Polaris Manage...

Introducing Our Marketing Intern, Kelly Rogers

Hello blog world!  My name is Kelly Rogers and I am Roundpeg’s marketing intern for the summer.  I am a junior at Purdue University (I have a feeling I may be butting heads with the IU fans around the office) majoring in advertising and public relations. I am an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and a member of PRSSA and AAF.  I have lived in the Indianapolis area for the majority of my life and I can’t wait to start networking and meeting other Indy-area social media enthusiasts like myself (follow me on Twitter @kellyarogers). This summer I am looking forward to acquiring...

Sometimes it Pays to be Awkward

Yesterday,  I had the opportunity to attend a really cool, unique Rainmaker event focused on social media marketing. The name of the event is Socially Awkward, and it’s chaired by Will Hardison. Will is heavily involved in social media and wanted to create an event that celebrated the medium. It was fun discussing Twitter, Foursquare, and Facebook with other professionals and learning how they use it to grow their business. In addition, we had a group activity designed to demonstrate how powerful  ”ReTweets” can be as part of a business development strategy. One really...

My Real Customers

The other day, Allison wrote a post about keeping employees motivated.  I thought I would follow up with a few thoughts of my own. As I look to transform Roundpeg from an organization which revolves around me, my expertise and my reputation, to one  which exists even if I am not in the middle of it I need a strong, committed team.  While the process of building a great team  starts with hiring the right people ( and I have the right people, Allison, Jay, Rebecca and Taylor) it requires a shift in behavior from the manager.   At some point you have to let go of some of the control, let...
