Hidden costs to end-of-the-year hiring

Guest blogger, Lindsey Paho, a writer at Professional Intern  is back for another visit.  This month her post focuses on the pros and cons of end of year hiring. For the small business owner, timing of when to bring on new employees can have a significant impact for the bottom line. While it’s stirring to have the type of growth that necessitates hiring, bringing on a new hire at the wrong time of the year can make for a very costly error. Perhaps the worst time for hiring is at the end of the year when an accumulation of factors stack the deck against the employer who takes on...

Small Business Web Design Trends

We are currently working on eight different small business web design projects. In addition to the juggling and scheduling challenges which come with that many projects, there are the design questions. It is easy to fall in.  to a routine and build every site on the same template. With Jenna and Peter’s graphic skills it would be easy to make each one look different, but I would get bored. How Roundpeg Taught Me to be a Honey Badger

Another week, another goodbye as our intern Brittany leaves Roundpeg.  We wish her well as she heads off to a job we have helped her prepare for. Four months ago I was sitting in front of a computer screen at a job that had no room for growth. I woke up everyday knowing I wasn’t getting anywhere in my present situation and I was frustrated. But that conversation was the beginning of a relationship which would change the course of my business. A few days later, Tony called and asked me to be a part of Rainmakers Advisory Board.   If you have ever had a conversation with Tony, you know there is lots of energy and when you walk away you realize you agreed to something.  Often, you are not sure what it was you agreed to....

LinkedIn for Corporate Lead Generation

Most of time, if I am asked to make a presentation to a group, the audience is comprised of small business owners.  So the invitation to talk to the business development team of Duke Energy about Linkedin was a challenging. but fun change of pace for Allison and me. While we focused a significant amount of time on the set up of their profiles, the liveliest part of the program came as we talked about how to find contacts in specific companies.   Even with small contact circles they were surprised to see how wide their networks spread as they added just a few contacts each. It was fun to...
