Elegant Themes Delivers Trim Site
Mike Kenney wanted to build a resource platform for the irrigation contractors who worked with the Kenney Companies. His vision was to offer a series of services for these small business owners under the FiNao Advisors brand which would help them improve key areas of their business. He had a basic shell built in WordPress to use as the starting point for an expanded site.
As we talked about the types of programs he wanted to offer small business owners, I got really excited about this project because I know how valuable these types of tools can be for small contractors. These are the same types of programs I had put together in my roles in channel management at Carrier and Conseco. The difference is the ability to deliver these tools through the web.
As we often do, we turned to Elegant Themes as our foundation. We selected Trim as our starting point. This clean, simple theme had just enough room on the home page to feature the four categories of products they want to promote. We came up with an unusual use for the rotating banner. Since this is not a business with many images, we kept it to simple text, featuring their tag line, “Failure is not an Option,” on each screen, bundled with different services on each rotation.
The part of the site I am most excited about is the services table. Using the pricing table short code from Elegant Themes, we were able to replace the simple boxes of information with a really cool comparison chart. The at-a-glance function presents the options in a way that encourages visitors to learn more.
If you are going to work with this table, a word of caution, the short code isn’t as straightforward as it seems. It took a little bit of trial and error to discover that even though the ”price” call to action button appears at the bottom of the column, the code is actually found at the top of the table. Once we figured that out, the rest was easy.
There are many companies out there that create themes for WordPress, but time and time again we return to Elegant Themes. They look great, the coding underneath is solid, and they are easy to modify and customize for each client. Best of all, they include terrific features and short code which allow us to find creative ways to organize information and help our clients engage their visitors.
